The EA has this month issued revised versions of RPS 216 and RPS 217 to reflect minor amendments. They fully replace the original versions.
RPS 216 is for the storing of imported healthcare waste at a healthcare facility without the benefit of an environmental permit, in an emergency situation created by failure of a contracted waste collector. This has been updated to increase the storage of anatomical waste without refrigeration from 24 to 72 hours (to take account of the current season), and to extend the life of the RPS until 31 March 2019.
RPS 217 is for receiving healthcare waste without the benefit of a pre-acceptance audit from the producer. Producers are now given 2 months to provide this information to the receiving site (an increase from 1 month). The RPS has been extended to apply to waste received before 31 March 2019 and will be fully withdrawn on 31 August 2019.
