The HWMA were the proud sponsors of the award for ‘Best Reduction of Clinical Waste of the Year’, which was won by ISS Facility Services Healthcare & University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire. The award was presented to the winner by our Chairperson, Clare Noble, at the event held in Birmingham on 2 October.
The judges’ comments noted that the winners had achieved an impressive transformation in clinical waste management. Key initiatives included hiring dedicated waste-specific managers, rolling out the dynamic ‘Healthcare Waste Wise’ training programme for frontline staff, and identifying successful waste diversion examples. Their commitment to removing general and recyclable waste from the clinical stream, along with reintroducing reusable items, has resulted in significant cost savings and carbon emission reductions, setting an industry-leading example.
